CoverCat Fraud Policy
Mutual trust in our business relationship is important. You trust us to process your claim properly and we trust you to supply us with correct information. Therefore, CoverCat works diligently to protect our customer’s interests, the company’s interests and the insurance industry’s collective’s interest by actively preventing, detecting and rejecting fraud.
What is Fraud?
Fraud is when deliberate deception is used to attain (or attempt to attain) an achievement, payment or insurance cover for which there is no right. Examples of insurance fraud include but are not limited to:
- Dishonest answers when applying for insurance
- Premium evasion
- Altering amounts on invoices
- Exaggerating or claiming double losses
- Submitting bogus claims and other willful acts of deception
- Resubmitting a dismissed claim with a different explanation
How we fight Fraud:
CoverCat is committed to fighting fraud as excessive fraud could cause premium levels to increase and hinder our service to our clients. We have internal control measures in place for signaling, avoiding and fighting fraud committed by customers, employees, partners, vendors and/or other service providers. We work actively to prevent fraud by using our insight and experience in cooperation with authorities and other relevant stakeholders for the mutual benefit of the insurance collective. This is how we prevent you and other clients from becoming victims of dishonest behavior.
We check and investigate every claim. If we think something is not right about your claim, we will investigate it further. To do this, we may collect, record and check your data. We may ask you for additional information and explanation. We may also use an investigation agency to investigate suspected fraud.
If we establish that fraud has been committed, we may, for example, decide to take action including but not limited to:
- Not accept insurance or cancel existing insurance
- Alter the insurance contract
- Reject the claim or decrease the claim compensation
- Reclaim an insurance payment made
- Issue a warning (including stricter checks)
- File a police report
- Reclaim investigation costs
- Register the incident in internal or external fraud databases
The person involved will be notified of our position and which measures we will be taking. In such cases, the person involved may request access to the files or challenge the decision by sending an email. In order to check the identity of those involved and to prevent unauthorized parties from accessing the data, we will ask you to attach a copy of your ID to your request.
Exchange of Information:
To counteract fraud, we can record and obtain information from the Central Information System (CIS). The CIS Foundation administers details for insurance companies working in the Netherlands. We only consult and record details if there is a reason to do so.
CoverCat adheres to the privacy rules in the context of fraud and crime management. We process personal data of our customers in compliance with the applicable insurance and data protection legislation. More information about how we process personal data can be found in our Privacy Notice.
